Invisalign is Coming to Integrated Dental

We are very excited at Integrated Dental to now provide Invisalign orthodontic treatment at our office! Many people have heard of Invisalign or have seen advertisements, but still have questions about what is the process like? How long is treatment? Am I a candidate for Invisalign? Hopefully after reading this blog I have answered some of these questions.

First, who is a good candidate for Invisalign vs traditional braces? Most orthodontic issues, such as crowding, deep bites, open-bites, and spacing can be treated with Invisalign. There are more complex cases, however where traditional braces are still the better option. The best way to know if Invisalign is appropriate for you is to come in to the office for a free, no obligation consultation.

Another common question is how long will I be in Invisalign? Treatment times can range depending the tooth movements that are required. Most cases on average last 12 to 18 months. Treatment time is heavily dependent on patient compliance with wearing the aligners. If the aligners are not being worn the proper amount of time in your mouth, the teeth cannot be moved to the proper position.

So now you know who could be a candidate for Invisalign treatment and how long treatment lasts, the next question is usually, “How does it work?” The process starts by taking impressions of the top and bottom teeth and a few pictures of how your teeth fit together. These records then allow the Invisalign software to make a computer generated simulation of how the teeth need to be moved for the desired results. This simulation can be viewed by the patient and will help clarify how long treatment will take. The next step is adding attachments to some teeth to facilitate the necessary movements. These are made from the same material as the tooth colored filling material that would be used if a cavity was being filled. At this point you will snap in the first aligner. These will be worn 22 hours per day for two weeks. After two weeks a new set of aligners will be worn. This process continues until you have the perfect smile you have always wanted!
